In the beginning of the year all Elementary students and a few teachers created little self-portraits on post-it notes. They began by looking at artwork from several portrait artists. Students were asked to identify things that are in a detailed portrait. They decided a good portrait included a person or people and information to tell you about them. Students created a small portrait of themselves and drew pictures in the background to show information. The portraits were displayed in the hall on the bulletin board across from the art room. After 2 months, they have come down and students will be attaching them to their sketchbooks. Here are a few examples from various grades:

At the end of the year, all students will take their sketchbooks home. They will be able to see all the progress they have made over the year 🙂
