Kindergarten students have been working on layered paintings.
They began by looking and talking about rainbows and colors. We read Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh which is about mixing colors. The room buzzed with excitement as we painted the rainbows we have seen with watercolor.
Next, students drew their favorite shapes and cut them out. They used tempera paint in the primary colors and texture tools to make designs and patterns in the paint. Students mixed paint like the mice in the book mixed paint. Painting is so exciting for them and students did very well handling the materials. We didn’t have any accidents!
Last, Kindergarten students pasted their shapes onto the painting for the final layer.
